"Art lasts longer than life."
As far back as the Renaissance and before, the great masters have been inspiring artists. To that end Scott Raimondo does his small part to keep the flame of art alive in the heart of St. Augustine. It is not fame and fortune but the art spirit that sustains this endeavor. From the ancient village streets of St. Augustine to the halls of the Louvre and back again Scott is known and recognized carrying on a respected tradition and cultural venue.
For the past twenty years Scott has lived and pursued his interest in art in St. Augustine. Take a closer look and you can see he has been busy recording local color climbing up the masts of shrimp boats, on balconies and rooftops, in old shipyards and in the gutters of streets and down little alleys searching for that elusive element - inspiration. His paintings depict vibrant color and muted light capturing the history and the rhythm of the life of the oldest city, a city rich in tradition with the shadows and perspectives of famous artists who walked these streets for hundreds of years before him.
Scott Raimondo, a visionary, a dreamer and a painter of big thoughts is also a realist at heart seeking to capture that moment when the sunlight hits the bridge or, for a few minutes, the sea has that certain sparkle and the pink oranges and whites of the buildings on the bay light up with a Mediterranean glow.
Scott Raimondo was born on July 27, which by coincidence is also the same day Vincent Van Gogh shot himself. However, although some of his paintings resemble Van Gogh’s style, Raimondo’s paintings are full of color and affirmations of life.
In art school he received a degree in fine arts and printmaking, creating etchings, wood block prints and silkscreen. His works are a diversity of media including oil, watercolor, pastels and ink drawings. This makes his talent not only pleasing to many people of various backgrounds but also undeniably unique.
Exhibiting loosely in the artistic tradition that has always been the fabric of the vibrant city of St. Augustine from its European roots to the days of the Flagler Era, the color of the artists still exists freely today throughout the city in a unique setting by the sea where thousands visit each week. In the very epicenter of the New World in the center of the historic district in the Plaza de la Constitución you will also discover it’s cultural roots; artists displaying their works and hand painted pieces.
Encouraged by the great enthusiasm of the many people who visit from all over the world, sales of Scott Raimondo’s paintings have found a following that encompasses the globe from China to Paris to the Governor’s Mansion in Argentina.
