Jeff Seaberg
Artist
About the Artist:
Jeff Seaberg studied Fine Arts at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Ma, receiving a bachelor’s degree in 1993. He attended their summer program in Viterbo, Italy studying painting. In 1997, Jeff spent the year drawing caricatures in Horton Plaza and Old Town State Park in San Diego, California. He also showed his art at several coffee shops in town, selling various original paintings. In 1999, Jeff spent a year teaching English as a volunteer in Pueblo Nuevo, Costa Rica with a non-profit group called WorldTeach. He used art and song to help educate the children in learning English. Years later, Jeff started a couple of businesses in Costa Rica. One of which was an ice cream shop in Miramar where he showcased his artwork. The other business was a booth to sell his artwork and his T-shirt designs when cruise ships arrived at the port of Puntarenas. Most recently Jeff has started his own website, dedicating more time to creative endeavors. His new occupation as an aviation mechanic has become the means to which his creativity can now fly!
Creative Disease by Jeff Seaberg (January 8, 2008)
I would like to write a few words about creativity and how I feel about it. I think of creativity as a sort of disease or a troublesome wart. It is always present within me, sometimes I ignore it yet it just keeps growing. I can’t get rid of it, and even if I could do I want to lose it? It is a part of me. I grew up in a creative atmosphere. In my little world I had a father who was and still is an architect and a mother who was and still is an interior designer. One of my best boyhood friends and now manhood friends was and still is an amazing artist and writer. Both my parents painted and sketched whenever the opportunity arrived, so naturally I started to join the fun. I don’t think I was a natural by any means and I say this because I witnessed a natural. My best friend was a natural artist. He could and still can draw himself into a universe of creativity. Whereas I had to struggle to make something look halfway decent, my talent's growing pains. And today I still can not create that universe like he can, I can see something and draw it accurately and add my own style, but nothing like that which he received as a child. I used to say that if you put him into an empty room with a piece of paper that he will draw an amazing scene, whereas if I was put into that same empty room I can draw a very nice rendering of the chair that was in the room.
